Saxony anhalt

The Saxony-Anhalt state parliament passed a resolution demanding an immediate halt to all German aid to Ukraine, with AfD and BSW votes, calling on CDU Premier Schulze to push for peace talks with Russia.

Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has won the Saxony-Anhalt state election with approximately 44 percent of the vote, raising urgent questions about coalition formation as mainstream parties have pledged not to govern with the AfD.

Around 5,000 people (with organisers claiming 14,000) rallied near the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Monday evening to protest against the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which won Sunday's state election in Saxony-Anhalt with a significant lead.

The AfD won 43.8% in Saxony-Anhalt but fell short of an absolute majority, holding 39 of 83 seats. US envoys Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv but achieved no Ukraine peace breakthrough.

Germany's far-right AfD is set for a historic 44% victory in Saxony-Anhalt that could make it the first far-right party to govern a German state since World War Two.

Activists, unions, and churches in Germany face rising far-right threats as Saxony-Anhalt prepares for September 6 elections, with democratic networks losing funding and staff.

Germany's far-right AfD leads polls at 42% ahead of September state elections in Saxony-Anhalt, potentially making it the first German state where a party classified as confirmed right-wing extremist could govern.
